Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Phuentsholing Night Stay in Phuentsholing |
Day 2: Phuentsholing - Thimphu (180 km, approx 6 hours drive) After breakfast, proceed to Thimphu approximately 6 hours ride. The road climbs steeply up and down mountainous ranges through zig-zag mountain routes. On the way, we will stop at Kharbandi Gompa. This beautiful monastery was built by Royal Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choedon in 1967, offering a splendid view of Phuentsholing and the Indian plains from the splendid monastery gardens of tropical plants and flowers. Lunch is served en route. |
Day 3: Thimphu Enjoy full day sightseeing including, Handicraft Emporium which has a wide variety of displaying assortment of beautifully hand-woven and handcrafted products; National Textile Museum , under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuk opened its exhibition; Folk heritage Museum aka Phelchy Toenkhyim, dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibition and demonstration. |
Day 4: Thimphu - Punakha (75 Km, 3 hours drive) Drive to Punakha over the Dochu-La pass (3,100 meters), which on a clear day offers an incredible view of Himalayan peaks snowclad mountains bodering Tibet from the pass before descending into balmy Punakha valley. Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan. Visit Punakha Dzong which is located between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River) the "Palace of Great Happiness" built in 1637. |
Day 5: Punakha - Paro (125 Km, approx 4 hours drive) After breakfast, drive back to Thimphu. On arrival visit to the Tashichhodzong, National Memorial Chorten, completed by the Royal Queen Mother in the memory of her son the Third King who passed away in 1972, Kuensel Phodrang, The Motithang Takin Preserve also known as the Thimphu Zoo and 12th century Changangkha Temple. |
Day 6: Paro After breakfast hike to Taktsang Monastery, the wooded structure stands bravely on a cliff in the upper Paro Valley. The walk of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. It is said that the great Guru Rimpoche have flown here on the back of a tigress and set up this monastery when he brought the teachings of the Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th Century. |
Day 7: Paro - Phuentsholing (175 km, approx 6 hours drive) In the morning drive to the Phuentsholing (6hrs). Phuentsholing town is the gateway to Bhutan from Indian state of West Bengal. Situated directly at the Himalayan foothills, Phuentsholing is a fascinating mixture of Indian and Bhutanese, a perfect example of mingling of people and their culture. Being the frontier town, it serves as the entry/exit point to Bhutan by road. |
Day 8: Depart Phuentsholing After breakfast drive to Baghdogra airport for flight to your onward destination. Tashi Delek. |
