On the eve of Magh Bihu, Uruka is celebrated in which temporary shelters made of hay and wood called “Meji” are built to a considerable height and a bonfire is lit beside for community feast. The half-burnt strews of the Meji are thrown into the fields and into the roots of the trees as this practice is believed to increase the fertility of the soil.
